OUR STORY

Sophie Cohen has been inspired by a long-held vision to create a law firm with heart. Whilst creating ripples in a leadership program, Sophie connected with Kerren McNamara, Managing Director of a likeminded business whose core values reflect her own. Together KIN Partners was born, a law firm that provides exceptional legal solutions via genuine connection, kindness, and heart.

MEET OUR TEAM

Sophie Cohen | Managing Director | Chief Inspiration Officer
B.EC, LLB, LLM (Applied Law, majoring in Estate Planning), Nationally Accredited Mediator Program

T: (03) 7035 1302   E: sophie@kinpartners.com.au

“We need to bring more love and kindness into the boardrooms of Australian businesses.”

Founding her first law firm at the age of 24, Sophie has over 25 years of experience as a lawyer, business advisor and leader, working for clients ranging from family businesses to household names.

Sophie empowers people to be the best expression of themselves and realise their dreams and goals, while she looks after the ‘legal stuff’ to make it happen. Sophie always ‘shows up’ with a smile, optimism, courage and empathy.

But don’t mistake Sophie’s heart-based approach as a whole lot of fluff without substance or expertise. She has a heap of degrees, a truckload of experience, and a healthy dose of creative flair which she demonstrates by making her speaking engagements and presentations the exact opposite of boring.

Sophie is also passionate about helping young people to realise their full potential and she does this through her work on the Board of Mindfull Aus Ltd and as an educator in the Juris Doctor program at RMIT University.

At home with her 4 teenage children, you might find Sophie busting out some disco diva moves (much to her kids’ embarrassment), and she loves running, swimming and playing futsal to stay fit and active. The beach is Sophie’s happy place and she can always rely on the ocean to lift her spirits, free her mind and nurture her soul.

Christian Chenu | Senior Associate | Master of Curiosity
JD, MA, B.Com, BA (Hons), GDLP

In all things, our first instinct should be to help. We serve ourselves best when we serve others.

Having practised law for over 10 years, whether you are an individual or business, Christian has the expertise to assist you.

More importantly, he knows that you are the expert on all things concerning you, and that your contribution to any legal strategy can make a good solution better. It is only when technical expertise is married with the personal that the best outcomes are realised.

Christian has extensive experience with personal and commercial succession planning. He is often sought for advice in superannuation, including structuring and compliance, and regularly presents on self-managed superannuation fund strategies. He has a particular affinity with limited recourse borrowing arrangements.

With a background in the financial services industry, Christian is also accustomed to working on complex matters with multiple stakeholders across diverse industries and disciplines. He works regularly in commercial and financial practices, working with boards and advising directors, both on specific matters and generally. He has extensive experience with a host of commercial strategies and transactions, including loan transactions and facilities (including matters involving the Personal Property Securities Act), shareholder agreements, buy/sell arrangements, business sales, trusts, asset protection strategies and commercial transactions in general.

Christian also has a very keen interest in supporting our clients as a virtual in-house legal counsel through our retainer arrangement. He works with you to complete a health check on your business, identify your needs and provide you with a tailored package to support you and your business.

Christian is an incredible leader and is passionate about learning, with a curiosity for everything. He is our very own genius and go to person for all fun facts in the world.

When Christian isn’t solving problems for our clients, look for a quiet café where he’ll be immersed in a book, only occasionally interrupted by his dog begging for crumbs or by his partner, Linda, instructing him on the minutiae of international business etiquette. Failing that, he may have an assessment due for his Masters of Law. He also sits on the committee for an up and coming community theatre company.
